Livingston C. Lord came to Charleston in 1899 to serve as the first active president of Eastern Illinois State Normal College, following the sudden death of the first appointed president. His charismatic presence and strong character made a impact on the university and its student body. Throughout his career, he attempted to act in the best interest of the students’ by ensuring they would receive a well-rounded experience while at Eastern. His strong leadership while serving as president helped to shape present-day Eastern Illinois University.
