This is two self guided cemetery tours based on two distinct parts of Mound/Roselawn cemetery. If a longer tour is desired, they may be combined.

Other Information: Born in Arthur, IL , Moved to Chesterville, but worked in Arthur when he was drafted in 1918. On his draft card, he is was described as “tall, medium build, grey eyes and dark brown hair.”

Andrew Kershner Dunn
Birthday: April 21. 1894
Death: September 12, 1918
Branch of Service: Army
Role in service: Second Lieutenant
Date of Enlistment- Entered Officers Training Camp in May 1917, Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in August of that year. Killed in action at the Bois-le-Pretre as a part of the Battle of Saint Mihiel in France. Second Lieutenant Dunn is interned in “Plot D Row 4 Grave 2, St. Mihiel American Cemetery in Thiaucourt, France ” according to the cemetery’s web records. He is also honored here at Mound Cemetery in his family’s hometown of Charleston.
Other information: Second Lieutenant Dunn was the son of the Illinois Supreme Court Justice Frank K Dunn, who served 1907-1933. After his son’s death, Judge Dunn inquired about how it happened. A copy of the letter is available below.

Other information: Died on base of scarlet fever and pneumonia. The body was shipped to his hometown of Charleston and he was given a military funeral.
