Sharing Assessment Results

“Data is meaningless if it’s collected and then sits on the shelf, or in cyberspace.  It’s disrespectful of the time students gave to take our [assessments], and of our own time in developing them.  You must be willing to engage in the effort to analyze the data and use it to create insight.” – Kathy Woughter, Vice President for Student Affairs, Alfred University (NY)

Steps for Sharing Assessment Results (Schuh & Associates, 2009)

  1. Identify the audience – who needs this information?  Who wants this information?
  2. Develop appropriate formats – how would they best digest information?
  3. Identify the components – what key pieces of information do they need?
  4. Identify recommendations for practice – so what, include action steps on what needs to happen based on the information presented.

Sharing Assessment Creatively

There are several ways you can share your assessment results, a few are as follows:

  1. Assessment Newsletters
  2. PR campaigns/posters
  3. Websites
  4. Oral presentations (formal or informal)
  5. Brochures
  6. Facebook, Twitter, e-mail
