Student PAWS Self-Help Guide

Logging in to PAWS:

  1. Log in to PAWS on this page, or click "PAWS" in the upper right hand menu at eiu.edu. and click "LOG IN TO PAWS".
  2. Log in using your EIU netid and password.

Personal Information Tab

  • Click on the "Personal Information" tab to access basic information such as address, phone number, emergency contacts, etc.

Student Tab

Click on the "Student" tab to access information related to your student records, student account, parking permits and citations, student profile, track attendance, registration and schedule planner.

Student Grades

From the "Student Grades" menu, you may view grades by selecting a term and level from the drop-down menu.  

Academic Transcript

The "Academic Transcript" link allows you to view your transcript after selecting a level and transcript type from the drop-down menu.

Enrollment Verification

The "Enrollment Verification" link allows you to generate a verification of your enrollment through the National Student Clearinghouse that you may share with employers, insurance agencies, scholarship boards, etc.

Search Class Schedule

Click on "Search Class Schedule" to access an interactive search of current and upcoming class schedules.

    • You have several options to help you search and can decide what columns appear on your screen by clicking the wheel in the upper right-hand column.  
    • By clicking on the course title, you can view additional information about the course. 
    • There is an Advanced Search feature which provides many filtering options to narrow your search. (Click on the "Panels" button in the lower left-hand corner for a fuller view of the filtering options.)

Student Profile

Click on "Student Profile" to access information related to your program of study, hours and GPA, test scores, holds, your advisor, current class schedule, grades, registration and planning, your week at a glance, and more. Explore all the links!

You may register for classes from the Student Profile (or the main student menu) by clicking on "Registration" or "Schedule Planner" to build a schedule from there.  

Student Registration

Many find the Schedule Planner tool very helpful in building your initial schedule.  However, you can register directly through PAWS by clicking on "Registration". For dropping and adding classes after your initial registration for a term, many find it best to use the Registration link in their PAWS account.

Instructions for registering, dropping, or adding courses through the PAWS Registration link are below. From here you can browse the class schedule, the course catalog, view past schedules, register for classes, etc.

    1. Clicking "Register for Classes" will prompt you to select a term and enter a Registration PIN (if required).  
    2. Select a term and entering your Registration PIN (if required).
    3. You have two options for building a course schedule:
      • Use the "Find Classes" option to search for course sections and load them into your schedule summary in the lower-right hand corner.
      • If you already know the CRN of the class section you want, you may use the Enter CRN’s option and load them into your schedule summary in the lower-right hand corner.
    4. The Schedule and Options tab displays your course schedule for the term selected.
      • In the middle of the screen you have the option to collapse or resize all the panes.
      • In the Summary and search results box, you can click the gear in the upper right-hand corner to manage the avialable columns (Title, Subject Description, Course Number etc.).
      • You can also utilize the Panels button in the lower-right to modify your view.  
    5. By searching for a class, you can see what course sections are available. If you want to add a course section to your schedule cart, click the "Add" button in the far-right column. 
    6. The course section will display in the Summary box in the lower right-hand corner. The course section status remains pending until you select an action & hit the submit button.
    7. Now you can select an action from the drop-down menu and click submit. Selected “web registered” and click the submit button to register for the course. Check the Status column to make sure you are now registered for the course.
      Note: Look for the course in your schedule grid, under the registered courses section of your student profile, and other locations to verify enrollment. It is recommended that you log out of PAWS, log back in, and check your class schedule anytime you make a change.
    8. The Schedule grid display is to the left of the Summary course registration list.
    9. You can select Schedule Details to get a more detailed look at your classes. 

Dropping or Withdrawing from a Class

    • If you would like to drop or withdraw from a class, you may do so within this same registration area.
    • Simply select an action from the drop-down menu and click submit.
      (You may refer to the Academic Calendar or drop & withdraw date lookup for deadlines to drop or withdraw. If your course is a short-term course - i.e. not meeting for the entire semester - refer to the Part of Term calendar on the Academic Calendar webpage.)
    • If you select "Drop Web" and click the submit button, the course will been dropped. The course section will be greyed out and the status will say “deleted”.
    • It is the same process to withdraw from a course. Simply select "Withdraw Web" from the drop-down menu, then click the submit button to finalize the withdraw. The status button will say “withdrawn”. 

Note: You can only drop or withdraw prior to the deadline specified in the Academic Calendar. If your course is a short-term course - i.e. not meeting for the entire semester - refer to the Part of Term calendar on the Academic Calendar webpage.  (You may refer to the Academic Calendar or drop and withdraw date lookup for deadlines to drop or withdraw. It is recommended that you log out of PAWS, log back in, and check your class schedule anytime you make a change.)
