CCLHP: Depositions of James Owens
State of Illinois
Coles County
James Owens says on his oath, I was in my brother’s store on the northeast corner of the public square, on Monday the 28th day of March, when I heard the report of a pistol, and soon after heard the report of a number of them. I then came to the door of the store and saw several men at the east end of Judge Edword office, and who, loading pistols and guns, I saw one of them fire his gun. I saw John Frazier sitting on his horse with a pistol in his hand and talking to the men who were loading their pistols and guns at the east end of Judge Edword’s office.
