Antony Cox after being duly sworn on oath states that Isaac Hagens came to my fathers (Adam Cox) on yesterday morning the 30th inst. and stated they gave him word on Monday night that there was 1000 soldiers in Charleston killing every democrat that came into town that he immediately got out of bed and started to Charleston at midnight to defend them (the democrats) and that a William Clark came with him. Affiant also heard him say that he drilled with the butternuts.

Melvins Ray of Coles Co. can give a great deal more evidence against Hagen of same character.
Cox says that Hagens told him that Harrison Ray was the first man that shot Dr. York. Ray lives near Avis Galbreath about ½ S.W. - - G.W. Collins a little North of Galbreath.
