Student Government Branches Info
Executive Branch
The Executive Branch shall exercise administrative and managerial power over the programs and policies created by the student government. The Executive Vice President will keep records of attendance for the Executive Branch.
Executive Officers
- Student Body President
This elected position shall be the representative of the EIU Student Body to EIU Administration and serve on various committees, boards, and legislative bodies within the university. The Student Body President shall oversee the creation and organization of key SGA events and programs such as Convocation, Open House, and First Night.
- Executive Vice President
This elected position shall be the representative of the EIU Student Body to EIU Administration and the EIU Board of Trustees, as the student representative. The Executive Vice President shall oversee the creation and organization of Student Action Team and assume the duties of the Student Body President in the case of a vacancy.
- Vice President for Academic Affairs
This elected position shall be the representative of the EIU Student Body to EIU Administration and serve on the Council on Academic Affairs and Faculty Senate. The Vice President for Academic Affairs shall serve as an ex-officio member of the Senate Academic Affairs Committee.
- Vice President for Student Affairs
This elected position shall be the representative of the EIU Student Body to EIU Administration and maintain and update RSO information. The Vice President for Student Affairs shall oversee the creation and organization of Pantherpalooza Student Involvement Fair.
Legislative Branch
The Legislative Branch shall consist of the Student Senate. The Senate shall designate rules and bylaws that it deems appropriate for the administration of the Legislative Branch.
Committees
- Academic Affairs
The Academic Affairs committee Investigates areas where students’ academic interests are concerned to find solutions to arising problems and promotes students’ academics throughout the year through different initiatives.
- Alumni Relations
The Alumni Relations committee works to improve the relations between current students and EIU alumni by creating networking opportunities.
- Business Affairs
The Business Affairs committee informs students about different line items of the university and where tuition, fees and appropriations are going as well as informing students how to be responsible with their own budgets.
- Diversity Affairs
The Diversity Affairs committee addresses the needs of the students in regards to diversity and how it relates to education and programs by creating an awareness of different types of diversity through programs and investigating policies dealing with certain issues.
- External Relations
The External Relations committee works with the community to create better relations by attending Charleston City Council, working with the local schools, and finding ways to promote all the resources offered in the community.
- Internal Affairs
The Internal Affairs committee makes sure members of the Student Senate are fulfilling their requirements, bonding with one another and assists with general office operations.
- Student Affairs
The Student Affairs Committee strives to promote student involvement on campus, increases Panther Pride across campus, and works with different Registered Student Organizations.

University Enhancement
The University Enhancement committee works to better the campus environment through safety walks, adding more resources and facilities, and making sure all concerns about campus facilities are heard and dealt with.
