Meet Cecil Smith
New GYO Program Director
Cohort Coordinators The College of Education has provided cohort coordinators to provide direct support to GYO candidates. They are your first line of support and will check in with you at least once a month individually, and monthly as a group. If you are having difficulty in your classes, please contact your cohort coordinator and they will find resources to help you.

Professional Development Expectation GYO candidates are expected to participate in professional learning each month. We will provide activities each month that address remote learning, technology, social emotional learning, student/family engagement, improving instruction, and other topics. What can count:
Approved Topics:
Please use the Professional Learning Log to document the activities toward this purpose. You may enter any professional learning event that is offered by the GYO program, your school district, professional organization, or other verified group. |
GYO candidates must apply for their forgivable loan each semester in order to update contact information and progress toward graduation. Applications are due approximately 3 weeks before the semester starts. Contact Cecil Smith (mcsmith5@eiu.edu) for an application. For GYO candidates dropping out a semester or completely out of the program, you need to fill out a Request for Waiver or Deferral of Student Loan Repayment Obligation form and send to Cecil Smith (mcsmith5@eiu.edu). Just a reminder after 2 semesters of no classes, a student who received any GYO loans will need to start repayment. CLick here for the waiver or deferral form. |
Electronic Writing Portfolio (EWP) The Electronic Writing Portfolio is a graduation requirement at EIU. Please see your advisor for any questions or concerns. |
Viewing Your Degree Audit in PAWS Please talk to your advisors and find out the courses you need each semester from EIU and/or your community college. Look through your degree audit in PAWS (DegreeWorks) and make sure that you understand all of the requirements to complete the programs (not Post Bacs). If you do not know how to use DegreeWorks, check this page out - includes a 2-minute video and written directions. If there is anything you don't understand, contact your advisor. |
