EIU Department of Music

Music Technology Minor

The Music Technology Minor is open to those majoring in Music (B.A., B.M.) or who are in related fields such as Digital Media, Television and Video production, to name a few. Along with raditional music skills, this minor provides students an opportunity to explore topics in music technology, composition, music business, and recording. Those accepted will enjoy working with professional music studios, software, and equipment, and learn from nationally recognized audio engineers and composers.

Music Technology Minor (19 credits)

Required Courses:

  • MUS 1070 – Introduction to Music Technology (2 credits)
  • MUS 1501 – Comprehensive Musicianship I (4 credits)
  • MUS 2071 – Audio and Recording Techniques I (3 credits)
  • MUS 2203 – Functional Skills in Piano (1 credit)
  • Ensembles - Choose from MUS 0200 – MUS 0260 (2 credits)

Select one of the following courses:

  • MUS 2557G – The Evolution of Jazz and Rock (3 credits)
  • MUS 3553G – Survey of Western Musical Masterworks (3 credits)

Select at least 4 credits from the following courses:

  • MUS 1560 – Introduction to Music Composition (2 credits)
  • MUS 2070 – Electronic Music Studio (2 credits)
  • MUS 3070 – Electronic Music Studio II (3 credits)
  • MUS 3071 – Audio and Recording Techniques II (3 credits)
  • MUS 3072 – Live Sound Reinforcement (2 credits)
  • MUS 3571 – Music Business (3 credits)
