From our office at 1343 Doudna Fine Arts Center, EIU's Center for the Humanities oversees two main areas of focus: 1) programming events (visiting speakers, workshops, and discussions) for campus and community participants, and 2) developing and administering curricular opportunities.
You can take a look at some of our current offerings at our Calendar page. Our Talks & Presentations page also features an upcoming event, and you can see some of our past events on our Archive page.
Starting in the Fall of 2018, we are presenting Final Fridays at 4pm on the last Friday of the month. Each Final Friday event provides a monthly opportunity to hear about the exciting research, innovative teaching strategies, and creative activities that our faculty are accomplishing at EIU.
The Center has organized workshops and discussion groups, often co-sponsoring with the Faculty Development & Innovation Center on a number of topics of interest to faculty and to the community. Check out our Calendar and Book Club pages to see what we are up to at the moment!
We have a modest curriculum of courses—a freshman seminar and a senior seminar—administered by the Center. Recent curricular focus, however, has moved to the establishment in Fall 2018 of a Health & Medical Humanities Minor at EIU, the first such program at a state university in Illinois.
You can read more here about our HMH minor!
