Frequently Asked Questions About the Gateway Admissions Program

Who is eligible?

Any freshman applicant with credentials outside the standard admission criteria, but indicating academic potential as determined by EIU to be successful. (fall admission only)

How do students apply?

Students complete the standard admissions application. There is no separate application.

How are students admitted?

An Admission Review Committee will evaluate the applications of potential candidates. The evaluation may include additional academic indicators, a personal statement, and recommendations.

What is the difference between Gateway and Standard admittance?

Students admitted through Gateway are required to participate in certain activities and adhere to their academic plan to remain enrolled.
