EIU has a rich tradition of preparing students to accomplish their life goals through a great combination of quality academics and personal relationships. College degrees unlock rich and rewarding lives; at EIU we know that ability is not always reflected by the numbers. Our Gateway Admissions Program looks beyond the GPA and ACT/SAT scores to discover the true potential of a student.
Our focus in the Gateway Admissions Program is to provide students with individualized attention during their first year at Eastern. We truly believe students who may not have the standard academic credentials can find a pathway to success. Our team of academic advisors, along with other academic resource help, is dedicated to helping students develop the skills necessary to graduate from EIU.
Students will participate in a specialized orientation and will be partnered with an academic advisor prior to the start of classes. Individuals are also guaranteed a seat in our University Foundations course (EIU 1111) their first semester. This course helps students make a smoother transition to the college life.
Through the utilization of assessments, the student will receive academic feedback. This feedback, coupled with periodic progress reports from faculty, will aid in developing an individualized study plan.
Each student may be referred to the Academic Support Center where they will partner with an academic coach. These coaches will help students activate their academic plan and provide guidance and support.
