The Tarble Arts Center awards two competitive graduate assistantships each academic year, as well as student worker positions and academic internships for semester-long appointments that can be renewed. These opportunities are awarded to highly qualified students at Eastern Illinois University through an application process. The deadline for graduate assistant applications is mid-February. The areas of concentration for Tarble Junior Staff Members are:
Conduct independent research (both general and library research) in preparation for upcoming gallery exhibitions; acquire research materials for appropriate use in the exhibition using internal gallery resources as well as external libraries, archives, etc.; create files and organize research in an appropriate database; fact check research in preparation for the catalogue printing/gallery labels; provide regular updates on research to Director; general administrative responsibilities including filing, copying and general organization of files.
Requirements:
Facilitate a variety of learning and social experiences centered on works of art and current exhibitions; enhance educational opportunities for a wide range of audiences; develop strategies that promote visual comprehension of the collection; and collaboration across campus and the surrounding community in order to actively contribute to creative opportunities for all ages.
Requirements:
Assist with installation of various art exhibitions, learning how to properly handle artworks as well as the methods of storage and display of collections items. The Tarble Arts Center provides enhanced safety for collections by minimizing damages from external sources such as improper handling, vandalism, climate changes, overexposure to light, and pests.
Requirements:
Assist with a variety of print projects including exhibition catalogs, posters, web design, member newsletters, and annual members magazine. Assist with all types of media communication, including social media and press releases.
Requirements:
All Tarble Junior Staff Members are expected to assist with various administrative duties, monitor museum galleries, greet and assist visitors, work special events as needed, work Saturday shifts, and assist with exhibition installations as needed.
