SOCIOLOGY MAJOR AND MINOR

"Sociology will be satisfying, in the long run, only to those who can think of nothing more entrancing than to watch people and understand things human." - Peter Berger

Sociology Major

The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology requires 43 hours (14 courses) of coursework. Seven core courses are required (e.g. Introductory Sociology, Sociological Theory, Current Issues in Sociology), and students select an additional seven sociology electives that suit their individual and professional interests. Given the credit hour requirements of this degree program, students can easily complete one, or more, academic minors and can, through careful planning with an academic advisor, double major. Sample coursework includes:

Sociology Minor

While requiring 18 hours for the Sociology minor, the program also offers students a total of 108 hours of coursework, thus enhancing student selection and focus. Of the 18 hours for the minor, 9 credit hours (3000 or above) are required, including Policing Society, Sociological Theory, and Introductory Sociology. Students, in consultation with their advisers and in reflection of their professional interests, are then free to select 12 elective hours from remaining program offerings.
