Instituted in 1969, the program has a long distinguished history. Our program grants a Masters degree en route to the Specialist in School Psychology (SSP) degree. Grounded in the scientist-practitioner model of training, dedicated and engaged faculty teach all courses, supervise practical experiences, and collaborate with students in research. Scientific evidence is central to the curriculum and practice. Our students are expected to engage in critical thinking and depend on science for answers. We have created a supportive learning environment dedicated to the educational and professional development of our students.
We also provide assistantships to help students defray the cost of their education. These students assist faculty with teaching and research responsibilities. In addition, advanced students have opportunities for external graduate assistantships working in school districts in the area.
So far, the program has enjoyed 100% internship and job placement; and our graduates have no problem passing the Illinois State and national licensure examinations. Furthermore, our graduates work throughout Illinois and across the US. We take pride in acknowledging that our alumni are leaders and advocates of children in school districts and communities across the nation.
