What is a VPN? Who has access to the VPN?
A VPN, which stands for Virtual Private Network, connects two computers securely and privately over the internet.
Eastern Illinois University uses the Cisco AnyConnect VPN for Windows computers and the Mac OS Native VPN for Macs. Click on the below links for instructions to install Cisco AnyConnect VPN.

Starting in early November 2023, employees will need to opt-in to utilize the campus VPN. This change will turn off VPN access by default for the majority of our employees who never use it. Note, any employee who has utilized the VPN in the last 180 days are automatically opted in and won't need to submit a request for continued VPN access. To request access, please send an email to techsupport@eiu.edu or call the Help Desk at 217-581-4357.
Approved students have access to the VPN which allows them to connect to network shares and internal resources while on WiFi or off-campus.
