Subject: H1N1 Virus Update

Members of the Campus Community:

As the new school year begins, the novel H1N1 flu virus is gaining widespread media attention. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other health organizations are developing plans and making recommendations to effectively manage this virus. Eastern Illinois University continues to be proactive in addressing the risks of the H1N1 virus.

We are closely monitoring developments of this virus to determine how it will affect our campus as we enter the fall and winter flu season. Health Service staff members are working with local and state officials to implement additional precautionary measures. Current information and recommendations regarding both seasonal and H1N1 flu viruses are available on Health Service’s Web site at http://www.eiu.edu/~health/clinic/info/swineflu.php.

We encourage you to visit our Web site frequently and familiarize yourself with recommendations and precautions. We will keep you informed of changes as they occur and ask for everyone’s cooperation regarding this important health issue.

Sincerely,

Sheila D. Baker, M.D.
