Subject: UNIVERSITY POLICIES-DISCRIMINATION, HARASSMENT, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
Eastern Illinois University is enriched by building a campus that celebrates and draws upon the talents of all its students, faculty, and staff (Internal Governing Policy, #174).
Eastern Illinois University provides equality of opportunity in education and employment for all students and employees. Discrimination based upon race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, ancestry, marital status, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other basis of discrimination precluded by federal and state statues, is strictly prohibited (#174).
Any student who believes that he or she has been discriminated against on the basis of the aforementioned categories may file a complaint with Eastern's Office of Civil Rights and Diversity. No retaliation may be taken against any student who seeks assistance or remedies. Pasted below are the links to the university's policies and procedures related to affirmative action, discrimination, harassment (including sexual assault and sexual violence), and the provision of accommodations.
We are highlighting these policies for you in order that you are fully aware of Eastern's commitment to creating a welcoming campus for all students. I encourage you to contact our office with any questions that you may have about these policies and to bring to our immediate attention any issues related to discrimination or harassment.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Nichols
