Subject: Summer Kids Program Request
January 31, 2012
EIU Faculty and Staff,
For over 25 years EIU's School of Continuing Education has offered summer programming for area youth. Past offerings have included everything from robotics to art camp. We are once again planning our summer programs and would like to ask you to consider offering a one day workshop, a week long day camp of either half or full day length or an overnight camp experience. Age ranges we have found that benefit most from summer programming are Grades 3-12.
We are continuing with our current list of winning programs while developing others that bring area young people to our campus. Decades ago I attended choral, band and cheerleading camp at EIU and as a result when I chose which University to attend I already knew EIU would be a wonderful place for me. We want other young people to have those same fond memories of summers spent at EIU when they make their choice of University.
For ideas of interesting camps and workshops to offer I have put together a list to spark your imagination:
Video Game Creation Workshop Making your own You Tube Video
Robotics Photography Courses
The Successful Jr. High Student Seminar The Successful High School Student Seminar
The Successful College Student Seminar Young Writers Workshop
Writing Courses Sign Language
Spanish for beginners Conversational Spanish
Of course, we are also willing to coordinate summer adult lifelong learning opportunities such as cooking classes, photography, interior decorating, jewelry courses, altered books, mixed media courses.
Send us your idea and we will work with you to put together a plan of action and make your class an enjoyable teaching experience. Please RSVP by February 16th with your idea as we will begin marketing of the Summer Youth Programs in March to all area schools. Please attach this form completed to your email response, http://www.eiu.edu/adulted/CourseProposal_2012KidsPrograms.pdf . I apologize for the short notice and will try to do better next year. Keep in mind that provision of Non Credit services is off load and does not affect your workload hours.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Respectfully,
