Subject: President Gatrell Text Message Scam
Eastern Illinois University has been experiencing an increase in SMS phishing attempts targeting both employees and students. Recently, these messages have been impersonating President Gatrell or the ITS Help Desk.
Please be aware that EIU will never request your credentials, such as passwords or personal identification information, via SMS (text message).
If you receive a message asking for this information or from an attacker impersonating President Gatrell, do not respond. Instead, report it immediately to our EIU Help Desk at 217.581.4357 or by emailing phishing@eiu.edu.
Our top priority is protecting your personal information, and we urge you to stay vigilant against potential phishing scams. Always monitor your Duo prompts closely and report any suspicious activity.
