Subject: EIU Mourns Loss of Student
EIU is deeply saddened to share news that last evening, a student in our EIU Family passed away on campus. EIU has contacted the student’s family, and university personnel are actively reaching out to the student’s friends and colleagues on campus to connect them with counselors should they need it.
Our thoughts and utmost sympathies go out to all those impacted by this unexpected loss, and especially to Jason Aguilar’s family, friends, and track teammates. The loss of any student pains us all.
As we cope with our own personal and private feelings of grief and sorrow over this loss, we ask that everyone in our EIU community lift each other up in support and healing.
The EIU counseling clinic is available to anyone who wishes to talk about this heartbreaking event. You may make an appointment at the counseling clinic by calling (217) 581-3413, by calling the 24-hour crisis line at (866) 567-2400, or by reaching out in other ways using information available on EIU’s website.
President Glassman and Provost Gatrell join us in expressing our most profound sympathies to those closest to this loss, and we courteously ask at this time for everyone to respect the personal privacy of Jason’s family and friends as they cope with this tragic and unfortunate event.
We will provide more information should it become available, or at the direct request of the student’s family.
Anne Flaherty Vice President for Student Affairs
