Subject: Get your FREE Flu Shot
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:
As flu season quickly approaches, EIU Human Resources and Health Service want to help protect the university community from influenza, and are offering flu vaccinations free of charge. Flu vaccination is the single best way to help prevent you from getting and spreading the flu.
We strongly encourage the EIU community to receive the influenza vaccine for the following reasons:
* The flu is often severe enough to cause absences from class and/or work. Flu season usually occurs when academic and work demands are highest – getting vaccinated may help keep you from falling behind academically or professionally.
* The flu can also impact an individual’s ability to meet other commitments involving co-curricular activities, employment, family, and social functions.
* While flu symptoms may be mild or nonexistent, individuals may spread the flu to those at highest risk of flu complications such as grandparents, younger siblings, or those with health conditions like asthma or diabetes before they even know they are infected.
* “The CDC recommends the flu vaccine to all persons, ages 6 months and older, unless contraindicated." This recommendation includes all persons in our campus community.
On October 8, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the MLK University Union, EIU Human Resources and EIU Health Service will offer free flu vaccinations to all EIU students, faculty, staff, and annuitants.
Flu shots for students will be provided by Health Service and will be given in the MLK Union University Ballroom. Please bring your panther card.
Flu shots for faculty, staff, and annuitants are provided by the Coles County Health Department and will be given in the MLK Union Bridge Lounge. Please bring your Panther Card and valid insurance or Medicare card.
Students may contact Amanda Harvey (ajharvey2@eiu.edu) with any questions. Faculty, staff, and annuitants may contact Benefits Services (benefits@eiu.edu) with any questions.
We hope that all of you will join us on October 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember – Real Panthers stay healthy!
