Subject: EIU addresses "Heartbleed" vulnerability
A major information security vulnerability, known as “Heartbleed,” was disclosed publicly Wednesday April 9, 2014. “Heartbleed” affects a framework that is used by many organizations, including Eastern, to privately send data to and from network services.
We have no evidence of any breach, and like most organizations, our information technology personnel took immediate action to fix the issue. Even with no evidence of compromised data, it is strongly recommended that you reset your Eastern password.
To change your password, please go to the EIU website:
* Go to A-Z (in the top right of the screen)
* Choose the letter P
* Choose Password Change
* Enter your EIU NetID and current password
* Create security questions (if you have not done so already)
* Enter new password and confirm
* Choose Change Password
It is also recommended that if you have not set up or updated your security questions, please do so.
If you have additional questions about updating your password or security questions, please contact the ITS Campus Technology Support (itshelp@eiu.edu or 581-HELP) or Information Security.
If you would like more information about “Heartbleed,” please read our post on the ITS Blog at the ITS home page under publications.
