Nutrition and education

  • The MSND:NE is an excellent option for individuals from other related disciplines who want to broaden their career options by adding a firm foundation in Nutrition, or current RDNs seeking an accessible pathway to complete their master’s degree.
  • Current RDNS: If you are a credentialed RD/RDN with at least 4 years' experience in the field, you are automatically eligible to earn 9 credits through Credit for Prior Learning (CPL).
    • Currently practicing RDNs will earn 7 credits in Nutrition Therapy and 2 credits in an elective area of their choice.
    • Required documentation: A copy of your RD/RDN credential (registration and/or licensure), and a narrative describing how your prior learning meets the student learning outcomes of the selected elective course.
    • Cost:  $1200 total for 9 credits of graduate coursework.
    • After CPL credits, students must complete 24 credits of coursework, which can be completed in 2 full-time semesters, or in 12 months taking 2 courses each term.

MSND: Nutrition Education Application

All students applying for a MSND degree (either the Nutrition Education or Dietetic Internship option) will need to complete these components. The application is two-fold: 1. request admission into the Graduate School at EIU, and 2. admission into the MSND program. Both of these processes will be completed within the MyEIU Admission portal. When applying to the MSND program, you can select the online or on campus Nutrition and Dietetics Option: Nutrition Education Option as your preferred program. The required application components include the payment of a non-refundable $30 application fee to the Graduate School; your personal statement stating why you are a strong candidate for the MSND: NE program; three letters of recommendation; resume; and transcripts. These application components are clarified in the MyEIU Admission portal.
