Requirements:
The recipient(s) must be a full-time student accepted to Eastern Illinois University.
The recipient(s) must be a member of EIU Pride.
Financial need is a consideration.
The recipient(s) must have a minimum of a 3.00 grade point average.
The recipient(s) shall be a sophomore, junior, or senior.
The recipient(s) may be eligible to receive the award again provided they continue to meet the criteria stated herein.

Preference will be given to applicant(s) who
demonstrate a commitment to the elimination of discrimination against, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning person;
have been socially marginalized principally by reason of sexual orientation, HIV status, gender identity or gender expression regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity;
demonstrate or have demonstrated a commitment to increasing the level of tolerance, acceptance and respect of all persons regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity; and
demonstrate or have demonstrated a commitment to support the elimination of prejudice against LGBTQA students and individuals and to the advancement of the ideals of acceptance and diversity at Eastern Illinois University and the community at large.
The recipient(s) shall be freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
Factors that may be taken into account by the Committee in making the award shall include:
Leadership roles of the applicant in organizations with goals and activities consistent with the commitments stated in Section 4 above. Examples of such organizations include Gay/Straight Alliances; the Human Rights Campaign; Lambda Legal; AmFar; The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation; the American Civil Liberties Union; the Gay, Lesbian Straight Education Network; the Southern Poverty Law Center; PFLAG; and similar organizations committed to the elimination of discrimination against LGBTQA individuals and to the advancement of the rights of LGBTQA persons;
Individual risks to personal safety and financial security taken by the applicant in furtherance of applicant’s stated commitment; and
Potential for the applicant to continue applicant’s commitment through public service or leadership in organizations with goals and activities consistent with the commitments referred to in Section 4, above.
The recipient(s) may be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award again provided they continues to meet the criteria state above.
Requirement:
Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in good standing at Eastern Illinois University and qualify for financial aid.
For at least half of the scholarships awarded in a given year, preference will be given to minority students (including gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender students) and first generation students.
