Shannon McNamara was described as a great person, passionate, solid student, funny, smart, and most importantly, a daughter, sister, and friend. She was a student in the Physical Education Department (now known as the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Department) and a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Since her tragic murder in June of 2001, her family and friends have made it a priority to keep her memory alive. The KSR Department continues to honor Shannon through a scholarship awarded to a current KSR Student which is funded by the annual event held in her honor. This event has helped 19 students financially pursue their passion for health and fitness just as Shannon had envisioned in her life.
