- EIU Emeritus Professor CHARLES COLEMAN, Ph.D. in the Faculty Reading Room
Emeritus Professor Charles H. Coleman, Ph.D., joined Eastern Illinois State Teachers College in 1926 as a History teacher, and served as chair of the History Department from 1942 to 1954. He earned degrees from George Washington University and Columbia University, and was appointed to the Lincoln Sesquicentennial Committee in 1958 by Illinois Governor Stratton. Dr. Coleman attained the rank of Professor Emeritus in 1961 following 35 years of service, and a classroom building on the EIU campus - Coleman Hall - was named in his honor in 1965. The Charles H. Coleman Collection in the Booth Library Archives contains twelve boxes that include hundreds of writings, research notes, correspondence, photographs, and more on topics ranging from U.S. and local history, citizenship, Abraham Lincoln, EIU and World War I.
- Booth Library Benefactor ANNETTE CHRISTY, Ed.D. in the Ballenger Teachers Center
Dr. Annette Christy graduated from EIU in 1964 with majors in Latin and Spanish. In addition to her bachelor’s, she earned a Master’s in Library Science from Chicago State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Technology from Nova Southeastern University. She enjoyed a forty-three year career, teaching at the secondary level, and has served as a mentor for groups of on-site and online doctoral students at NSU.
Dr. Christy’s fond memories of Booth Library inspired her to make contributions to the Ballenger Teachers Center, identifying materials for the collection in consultation with librarians. It is her hope that these special materials will be used to promote a joy of learning and enrichment.
Through a decade of generosity, more than 300 books and learning resources have been made available to EIU and the local community.
