ASM offers our students and the university community the Asia-related education that the 21st century demands as Asia plays increasingly significant and vital part of the global economy, political relations, and cultural exchange.
The Asian Studies Minor (ASM) is an interdisciplinary academic minor. The ASM promotes education about Asia, coordinates Asia-related courses, and offers and supports Asia-related programs and research across all campus units for the interest of the university and wider community. "My interest in Asia began with the arts and language. My father is a Shaolin Kung Fu instructor and I've been training and competing in martial arts and combat sports since a young child. I also draw Manga. I studied Manga in Japan in summer of 2017. The experience motivated me to return to school to pursue Art and Japanese studies. I recently released my first book in English and Japanese and established the Japanese Culture Club at EIU this semester. I am studying Studio art and Chinese at EIU and look forward to expanding my horizons and gaining a deeper understanding of Asian history and philosophy through this program."
