INTRODUCTION

Dr. Darren Hendrickson earned both his B.S. and M.S. in Sociology from Utah State University and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Akron.  He joined the faculty of what was then the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, now the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology, at EIU in 2000.  Dr. Hendrickson's research interests are broadly in the areas of medical sociology and environmental sociology.  Within the area of medical sociology Dr. Hendrickson's specific focus is on the social and economic aspects of complementary and alternative medicine in the United States and issues surrounding the social determinants of health.  His other research interest, the sociodemographics of environmental concern, emerged out of his long-standing interest in the sociological study of the environment and environmental problems.

Dr. Hendrickson regulary teaches Introductory Sociology, Sociological Theory, Environmental Sociology, and Sociology of Health and Health Care.

Research & Creative Interests

Dr. Hendrickson's research interests are broadly in the areas of medical sociology and environmental sociology.  Within the area of medical sociology Dr. Hendrickson's specific interests focus on the social and economic aspects of complementary and alternative medicine in the United States and issues surrounding the social determinants of health.  His other specific area of research, the sociodemographics of environmental concern, emerged out of his long-standing interest in the sociological study of the environment and environmental problems.
