Advisement in the School of Business
What you should know:

A professional academic advisor will be assigned to you.
- Declared Business majors who are in good standing with the University are assigned an advisor in the School of Business Student Center upon completion of 60 hours of academic credit. You will always contact the same advisor for assistance and will work with that advisor until you graduate.
Your advisor:
- Is available throughout the semester to answer questions and provide support;
- Is a resource to help you understand the requirements of your major and find services you might need on campus;
- Will help you develop an academic plan appropriate for your career goals;
- Will help you identify professional development opportunities; and
- Will meet with you each semester to help you prepare for registration.
You can find your advisor’s name by logging into PAWS. Click on “Student Records” and then “View Student information”.
Business majors with less than 60 hours completed are advised in the Academic Advising Center, located in 9th Street Hall.
Academic advising appointments are required prior to registration.
All EIU students are required to see their Academic Advisor prior to registration for the next semester. At your pre-registration appointment, your Academic Advisor will talk with you about your academic plan, available courses, graduation requirements, and professional development.
- You will receive an email notification with information about how and when to schedule this appointment.
- You should come prepared for your appointment.
- Review your Degree Audit in PAWS.
- Look at courses available for the upcoming semester in PAWS.
- Review course descriptions and prerequisites for courses in which you are interested.
- Prepare a list of questions for your Academic Advisor.
