Honors Societies
Eastern Illinois University hosts nearly 50 honor societies that focus on specific disciplines as well as ones that are overarching and open to members from many disciplines.
We encourage you to get involved in an honors society within your major as well as one, or more, of the overarching societies. Membership in one of these societies may help your entry in civil service and other positions within the federal government. In a letter dated April 13, 1973, the U.S. Civil Service Commission stated, "Membership in a national honor society meets one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in numerous professional and technical occupations in the Federal service. However, applicants must meet all of the requirements as described in the particular Federal Job Announcement covering the positions for which they apply."
The links to the individual honors societies will connect you to a local chapter's web site, the national site, or possibly to the chapter's Facebook page. You should be able to contact the advisor or members from these links.
