The EIU Homecoming Parade is an annual tradition consisting of over 100 campus/community entries. A grand marshall, distinguished EIU alumni, decorated cars, bands, and floats will all be on hand.
Eastern's 2012 Homecoming parade begins at 9:30 a.m. For the fourth straight year, parade participants will experience a modification to the route that was traditionally used for years. The updated parade route will begin at the intersection of Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue, travel north to Monroe Avenue, west on Monroe to Sixth Street, then south on Sixth.
This is where the new route deviates from the old route. Instead of ending at Old Main, parade participants will turn west onto Polk Avenue until they reach Division Street. Heading south on Division, they will cross Lincoln and head for Grant Avenue (a.k.a., Panther Way), winding up at the tailgate area at O'Brien Stadium.
As the parade route includes Charleston's Morton Park, community members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for a safe and relaxing view of the parade. Family-oriented Homecoming activities will again be provided at the park, and will include a bounce house and EIU cutouts, perfect for photo opportunities!
Over 100 campus/community entries and a parade grand marshall will be on hand, along with distinguished alumni, decorated cars, bands and floats.
If you can't make it to Charleston for the parade, you don't have to miss out! WEIU-TV will broadcast the parade live (Your 13 channel on Consolidated Communications cable) and will also stream the event live on its website. Just go to the WEIU website and click the "Streaming Video" link on the homepage. The parade broadcast begins at 9:30 a.m. from the corner of Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue.
