Welcome to EIU! This six-week program is here to help you feel right at home and make new friends as you start your journey with us. Kicking off on August 19 and running through September, Weeks of Welcome offers a series of fun and interactive events each week, each with its own unique theme. These activities are designed to ease any worries you might have and connect you with other students. Check out the themes below to see what’s in store each week:

Week 1: Aug. 19-25 | Welcome Home
Weeks of Welcome: Week 1
  • First Day of Class Photo Event: August 19, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Library Quad
    Office of Leadership and Engagement
    Come to the Library Quad to get your photo taken with the big EIU letters and/or props!
  • Get to Know Chi Alpha: August 20, 7 - 9 p.m., Honors College
    Chi Alpha Christian Ministry
    Enjoy some pizza and learn about Chi Alpha, a nondenominational Christian campus ministry.
  • Office of Leadership & Engagement Ball Pit Event: August 21, 3 - 5 p.m., Doudna Steps
    Office of Leadership & Engagement
    Meet new people through random matching in the OLE ball pit.
  • Fraternity and Sorority Life Interest Fair: August 21, 6 - 8 p.m., South Quad (Rain Location: University Ballroom)

    Meet representatives from different Greek chapters and learn about their organizations and recruitment process.
  • Local Part-Time Job Fair: August 22, 2 - 4 p.m., Library Quad
    Career Services
    Explore potential part-time employment opportunities with local companies and organizations.

    Meet current members and learn about joining the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People RSO!
  • Grow Where You Are Planted: August 22, 8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Taylor Hall Basement

    Pot a small plant for your residence hall room and learn how plant care can be similar to self-care.
  • PRIDE Family Reunion: August 23, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Mellin Steps/Library Quad

    Connect with new LGBT+ students through various crafts and casual social interactions.

  • Panther-Palooza (Student Involvement Fair): August 27, 2 - 5 p.m., Library Quad

    Learn about all the different RSOs on campus and how to get involved.
  • You Are Worthy: August 28, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Mellin Steps
    The National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs (RSO)
    Interact with members of the NACWC and receive a motivational message. 
  • Pickleball Tournament: August 28, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., McAfee Gym
    EIU Pickleball Club (RSO)
    Players of all experience levels are welcome to compete in a Pickleball tournament. Paddles provided if needed.
  • Kat Karaoke: August 29, 6 - 8 p.m., Coleman Room 1255 (Auditorium) 
    The Kat Walk (RSO)
    Show off your competitive side in a lip sync battle and get to know members of The Kat Walk.

    Meet UPD officers and learn about campus safety and training opportunities.
  • International Students- Realistic Expectations: September 4, 1 - 3 p.m., MLK Union, Charleston-Mattoon Room
    Career Services
    Join Career Services for an interactive session to learn how to prepare for applying for jobs in the U.S. and adjust to cultural expectations.

    Network and learn about job, internship, and volunteer opportunities for pre-health majors.
