EIU Alum John Wills earns 2nd Place in National CBI Awards

(Charleston, IL) -- The College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) announced The National Student Production Award winners at the National Student Media Convention in Seattle on October 26, 2024.

John Wills (Coal City, IL), a 2024 graduate of Eastern Illinois University, was awarded 2^nd place Nationally for the category of Best Feature News Reporting for his story “New Plans For Carman Hall.”  The feature outlined what Eastern Illinois University has planned for the former resident hall, including the Illinois Fire Institute using the building for training exercises for 18 months. 

The judges said Wills has mastered the art of using solid scripting, soundbites of substance, and professional delivery to create an outstanding, newsworthy piece and editing and other production techniques were seamless.

Wills graduated EIU as one the most awarded radio students, garnering 8 National and State honors for his work at Hit-Mix 88.9 WEIU-FM.

Following his graduation John Wills was immediately employed at WAND TV and is currently a Television News Producer.
