The pre-licensure nursing program at EIU is a four-year on-campus program that prepares graduates to take the national licensure exam to become a registered nurse. Students complete prerequisite coursework prior to applying to the nursing program. Once admitted to the program in the sophomore year students begin the laboratory and clinical rotations. The multifunctional simulation laboratory at EIU allows students to practice skills in a safe environment and better prepares them for clinical rotations in local hospitals and health care organizations.
The nursing program at EIU has a concept-base curriculum that allows students to build on previous knowledge every semester and care for patients of all ages. Students are taught by experienced and dedicated nursing faculty that put students first. In addition, students learn in a cohort and complete the program together. This is an advantage because the students have study partners and support from day one.
