Overview

The Asian Studies Minor (ASM) at Eastern Illinois University strives to promote education about Asia across all campus units and in the wider community. ASM offers our students and the university community the Asia-related education that the 21st-century demands as Asia plays an increasingly significant and vital part of the global economy, political relations, and cultural exchange.

ASM coordinates the interdisciplinary Asian studies minor program consisting of Asia-related courses across departments and colleges; promotes interests and opportunities for Asia-specific teaching, research, and service by the EIU faculty and students; and supports other campus units to infuse Asian components in their programs and activities by serving as a partner and clearinghouse in our campus-wide collective efforts to provide quality education. By doing so, ASM seeks to enhance our students' interaction with and exposure to Asia, thus preparing them to become competent, informed, and responsible global citizens.
