The Minor in Professional Writing combines classroom instruction with practical experience to teach students how to communicate effectively in professional environments. Through client-based projects and an optional internship, students build a professional portfolio that demonstrates their writing, editing, design, and research skills to prospective employers.
The ability to communicate information effectively is a highly marketable skill in any field. A reported 50 percent of companies take writing ability into account when making hiring and promotion decisions, and 66 percent of professional employees in large American companies have writing responsibilities. For this reason, the Minor in Professional Writing is suited both for English majors and for students in other majors, such as business, health, and the sciences.
Courses in the minor are offered both online and face-to-face, in alternating semesters. Students can complete the minor with all online courses if desired.
