Interested in teaching Spanish or French or German but your primary teaching major is in another area?
We offer the option of a licensure minor for candidates who are obtaining primary licensure in another subject area in Secondary Education.
To complete your teacher licensure minor, you need…
21 hours of courses beyond 1101 in your language
3 hours of WLS/F/G 3401 Cadet Teaching
3 hours WLE 3400 Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages.
To be granted an endorsement, all teacher licensure minors must pass the Illinois State Content Area Test in the language of endorsement.
A Minor in Spanish or French or German (with Teacher Licensure option) will prepare you to teach your language at the K-12 levels. Our courses give you the linguistic and cultural knowledge you need to share your passion for your language with your future students.
Can’t wait to get classroom experience? Get credits, gain confidence and put your passion for teaching to work in a real-world setting. You will work with a faculty member to design and provide an after school enrichment program in your language of concentration for 1st through 4th graders in area elementary schools.
Candidates will have their own groups of about 8-10 young learners.
The job outlook for foreign language teachers is excellent. Principals contact our program regularly to inquire about soon-to-be graduates in Spanish, French, or German.
Note:
If your major is Elementary Education, please contact us for more information.
