The corporate communication major teaches students how to successfully organize and achieve organizational goals. Effective communication can make or break an organization so understanding the role it plays is imperative to your success. Research has found that people who understand how communication functions in organizations, have developed the written and verbal communication skills that employers desire, and know when and how to use those skills have more successful careers and contribute more to their organizations.
We prepare students for a variety of organizational positions by examining how the roles, functions, and management of organizations impact their success. Students also study important organizational concepts such as leadership, decision-making, conflict management, socialization, teamwork, and organizational culture, while exploring how issues of globalization, technology, diversity, remote work, and many more are impacting the organizations of tomorrow.
While we treat organizations as entities with identities, values, and cultures of their own, we cannot lose sight of the fact that organizations are made up of people and are created and sustained by communication. Learning how communication works to create, sustain, and alter organizations provides a better understanding of how organizations and communication shape and affect our lives.
