Assistant Professor of Nursing

The School of Nursing at Eastern Illinois University is accepting applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The desired start date is August 15, 2023. The department seeks candidates who are committed to student learning, and the academic and clinical instruction of undergraduate nursing students in traditional BSN and RN-BSN programs. Duties include teaching courses; clinical instruction; research; and service. Mentoring and advising students, contributing to faculty governance, and engaging in program research is expected.

The vision of the School of Nursing is to promote health and well-being through innovative, concept guided and interprofessional education, cultivate quality nursing practice, serve diverse local/global populations, and instill commitment to lifelong learning.

The School of Nursing is comprised of a fully online RN-BSN program and new traditional BSN program. Faculty collaboratively work together to provide students, both online and on-ground, with the best educational experiences and preparation.

Duties:

• Teach in undergraduate traditional BSN and online RN-BSN programs
• Provide direct classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction
• Participate in maintenance, preparation, and implementation of activities in the nursing laboratory
• Advise and mentor students
• Engage in research and other creative scholarly activities
• Engage in service at the program, college, and university level
• Participate in assessment and curriculum and program development
• Maintain licensure and participate in professional practice, workshops, and continuing education
• Contribute to faculty governance
• Travel to clinical sites expected
• Engage in other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Prepared at the doctoral level (PhD, EdD, DNP, DHSc). If doctorate not in nursing, Master's in Nursing Candidates will be considered if enrolled in a doctoral program.
• Preparation and clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing, obstetrics, psychiatric, pediatrics, or public health nursing.
• Minimum of three years of clinical practice
• Candidates must be willing to teach in a concept-base curriculum and willing to complete professional development in concept-guided education.
• Preference for experience teaching in a nursing program and online teaching Candidates must be qualified to teach online at Eastern Illinois University. Qualification is established through evidence of prior distance education training and experience or through the successful completion of the EIU Online Course Development Institute. • Licensed Registered Nurse in Illinois or prior to start
• Passion for innovative student-centered teaching and the ability to learn and implement new technology and pedagogy.
