Program Assistant – Research & Sponsored Programs

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a Program Assistant – Research & Sponsored Programs in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.   This position assists in the preparation and submission of all external grant proposals, coordinates internal grant competitions, assists the Director with awarded grants and contracts, and coordinates compliance with policies that govern protection of animals or human subjects in research.  Duties will include:

• Maintain up to date information on all Federal and State grant regulations.
• Assist in the development of policies and procedures guiding the submission and initiation of proposals.
• Review grant and contract proposals to ensure they are complete and conform to the agency guidelines.
• Oversee internal grant programs administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
• Apply compliance review procedures to sponsored programs.
• Assist with the negotiations of terms and conditions of awards by working directly with funding agencies and project directors who are submitting applications for funding.
• Oversee complete and timely submission of reports to external funding agencies and internal grant programs.
• Manage records of all internal and external grants.
• Prepare periodic reports.
• Coordinate compliance with university policies that govern protection of animals or human subjects in research.

Requirements for this position are:

1. A Bachelor’s degree.
2. One year of experience that includes one or more of the following responsibilities: (1) planning, budgeting, or monitoring of financial transactions; (2) monitoring compliance with internal and external policies; (3) working with staff who manage a range of functions such as accounting, purchasing, and payroll; (4) operation and maintenance of a database.

The Civil Service Examination for this classification is a credentials assessment.  No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from qualified applicants.  Upon successful selection of a candidate, all scores will be voided from this register.
