Public universities in the State of Illinois are required to classify professional (non-academic), technical, and support staff according to established civil service categories. All staff jobs, except those determined by the Civil Service Merit Board to be administrative/professional in nature, are classified as civil service. To be considered for Civil Service Positions you must complete and submit an application and pass an examination.
Temporary extra help are civil service employees hired on a temporary basis to handle emergent excess workloads within a department. These employees may work up to a total of 900 hours. At that time, the employee must be terminated for at least 30 days before they can be rehired in another extra help position.
Civil service openings are sometimes advertised online; however, you should test for any EIU civil service classification in which you are interested before a vacancy occurs. Read about the hiring process to learn how the hiring system works for Civil Service.

Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Engagement
Position Summary:
Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a Marketing Associate – Assistant Director for Marketing and Fan Engagement for the Athletic Department. This position is responsible for providing all marketing and promotions for the men’s and women’s basketball programs along with other designated programs. This position will focus on increasing attendance and ticket sales while continually improving the overall fan experience, within the guidelines, rules and regulations of Eastern Illinois University, the Ohio Valley Conference, and the NCAA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for all men’s and women’s basketball marketing, student/community engagement and promotional efforts, as well as marketing and promoting other designated sports.
• Coordinate with communications, media production, ticketing, and event management to ensure that the fan experience is a priority at all basketball events
• Develops and executes fully integrated marketing plans utilizing conventional, grassroots and digital marketing strategies to drive engagement and sales
• Enhance the in-venue and fan experience for men’s and women's basketball
• Writes scripts and direct in-game timing and execution of promotions, video board features, music, public address reads and other elements during the season
• Assists in concept-creation and execution of sport-specific sponsorship elements to create an engaging in-game atmosphere for fans and student-athletes
• Develop innovative ways to promote our athletic teams and branding, while taking advantage of emerging technology
• Works closely with student and campus organizations to drive student engagement and attendance
• Coordinate and lead fan engagement brainstorming sessions to generate ideas and address issues to improve the fan experience
• This position will also manage the student internship program and assist with the department’s digital marketing initiatives, where applicable
• Represent the department to various internal and external groups of the University. Including the design and execution of community-focused events throughout the year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a related field and two year’s (24 months) of professional experience in the field of Athletics working in the advertising, promotions, public relations, communications, journalism or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates must be organized and have ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks. They must have extraordinary focus on customer service. Able to work a highly variable schedule, including nights and weekends. They must be service and solution-oriented, placing program needs ahead of individual needs. Preferred candidates will have knowledge of NCAA rules.
Salary: $4,166.67-4,416.70/monthly; final pay rate offered will be commensurate with experience.

Assistant Director of Compliance
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Compliance reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and provides a range of administrative functions relating to NCAA rules application, student-athlete eligibility, recruitment activities and compliance with NCAA, Conference and Eastern Illinois University regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
▪ Maintain student-athlete records in compliance with state and federal laws
▪ Provide rules interpretations for the institution by working with the NCAA and conference offices
▪ Research NCAA rules, regulations and areas of risk for the university
▪ Reviews and tracks coaches logs from recruiting contacts, evaluations, and telephone calls
▪ Reviews and tracks countable athletically related activity
▪ Compile and record eligibility and squad lists
▪ Disseminate and approve requests such as occasional meals, speaking engagements, and roster changes
▪ Reviews and approves official /unofficial visits for prospective student-athletes
▪ Educate student-athletes on NCAA and conference rules and regulations that are tied to their athletic, and, by association, their educational pursuits
▪ Commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in the following:
▪ Provide NCAA rules education to all staff members
▪ Instruct all staff members on applicable changes or potential changes to NCAA rules
▪ Maintain scholarship records and verify that all awards are compliant with applicable limits
▪ Oversee prospective student-athlete recruiting activities
▪ Maintain current compliance software
▪ Tracking NCAA initial-eligibility
▪ Institutional monitoring of transfer eligibility
▪ Initiate investigations and self-report violations to the NCAA
▪ Development and implementation of rules education to coaches, student-athletes and others
▪ Coordinate NCAA & OVC waivers
▪ Institutional monitoring of National Letter of Intent (NLI’s) and Athletic Aid Agreements
▪ Oversee student-athlete notification of transfer
▪ NCAA Requests/Self-Reports Online (RSRO) submission of waivers and secondary violations as needed
▪ Coordinate submission of annual EIU, OVC and NCAA reports
▪ Ensure academic and amateurism certification for practice, financial aid, and competition
▪ Collaborate with support units to ensure student-athlete health, safety, and well-being
▪ Coordinate with Academic Services and the Registrar to maintain student-athlete eligibility
▪ Perform other duties as assigned by the Asst.

Master’s degree. Must be self-motivated and team-oriented. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and JumpForward are preferred. Good verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is required.
Salary: $17.55-18.55/hr. final pay rate offered will be commensurate with experience.

The department of Facilities Planning and Management is looking for a Construction Project Coordinator I. This position will: manage internal construction projects; act as a liaison between the University and consultants and contractors; administer contracts for construction; observe and report on construction in progress: monitor and report on budgets and schedules; and coordinate construction schedules and tasks with University activities. This position requires the ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, and scheduling software for reports, estimating software (RS Means), work control software (TMA), and knowledge and skills to efficiently produce drawings using a CAD system (AutoCAD) and manual techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· coordinates meetings to discuss project requirements and scope of work with units or departments;
· prepares and reviews project plans, specifications, and cost estimates; reviews site of proposed work to determine design parameters and constraints;
· issues work orders, schedules work and inspects progress;
· communicates ongoing work schedules and project progress with units or departments;
· monitors job costs, evaluates change orders and estimates costs of work in progress; orders special materials and equipment;
· provides instruction and direction to university crafts and trades and contractors who perform required construction work;
· inspects work performed by university employees and contractors on assigned construction or remodeling projects;
· assists in evaluating completed projects;
· creates and reviews plans designated by others to develop schedules and to ensure compliance with building codes and university guidelines;
· supervises lower-level employees as required;
· coordinates training of new construction items with in-house maintenance crews related to simple to moderately complex construction and departmental job order work; and
· performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
1. Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the following categories:
A. work experience in construction management, building project management or a closely related field.
B. college coursework in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
2. One (1) year (12 months) of building construction management and/or building project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in construction management or architecture is preferred. This person should have the ability to read and interpret contract documents and shop drawings, lead small construction crews, meet with clients to understand project needs, communicate clearly about all aspects of a construction project, be able to recommend the disposition of alternatives and change orders, and advise employees of contractors on matters related to building design or construction. Desirable qualifications include previous experience working for a large facility owner or university, and experience in contract administration of multiple construction projects of all sizes. The successful candidate will bring experience using industry standard techniques and creativity in adapting them to the University environment.
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000.

Extra Help WEIU
Position Summary:
Eastern Illinois University is seeking to fill an Extra Help Clerical position within the WEIU Radio-TV Program. The main duties are to assist the current Publicity/Promotions Associate who also oversees Education/Grants/Community Engagement/Donor Relations. Duties will entail assisting on all aspects for promotions and station events on and off site. Graphic Design and Marketing/Promotion experience will be helpful. Adobe software and social media platform experience is necessary. Television Production experience will be helpful and associated in many aspects within this role
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with Membership/Donor Relations and Fundraising activities
Assist in updating the database and Stripe payment portal
Maintaining records and reports
Knowledge of PBS and PBS Kids programs will be helpful.
Salary: $15/hr.

Eastern Illinois University is seeking service-oriented, student-centered individuals to fill a part-time 50% position for the Panther Shuttle Service. Drivers are required to operate various vehicles depending on need, with the primary vehicle being a 14-passenger bus with a GVW of less than 26,001. The shuttle service operates from late August to early May (with a summer layoff). The driver is responsible for transporting students to and from designated locations on campus and within the Charleston community according to the established schedule. This position requires excellent driving skills, an understanding of vehicle operation, and a commitment to providing exceptional service to all passengers. Applicants who are hired must pass a background check, physical, and drug test, and will be subject to random drug testing throughout employment. Base pay is $16.00 hourly with approximately 20-25 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Safely operate shuttle vehicles, ensuring the comfort and safety of all passengers.
Communicate effectively with passengers regarding routes, schedules, and any changes in plans.
Maintain a clean and well-functioning vehicle, performing routine checks and basic mechanical maintenance as needed.
Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving, ensuring the safety of passengers and other road users.
Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking from the shuttle, especially those with special needs.
Keep accurate records of trips made, including passenger counts and any incidents that occur during transport.
Requirements
Valid class "D" driver's license with a clean driving record; experience as a delivery driver or van driver is preferred but not required.
Previous experience in shuttle driving, school bus driving, or commercial driving is desirable but not required.
Strong mechanical knowledge to handle minor vehicle issues that may arise during operations.
Ability to drive safely under various weather conditions and navigate through different routes efficiently.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service.
Must be able to pass background check as required by Eastern Illinois University.

Position: Tenure track faculty position in Construction and Project Management at the Eastern Illinois University -School of Technology.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and may support one or more of the graduate degree fields. A typical workload per semester will include 3-4 courses in a classroom and laboratory environment. The Psychology Department at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) has an opening for a full-time (9-month) Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2025. Duties include teaching graduate courses in clinical psychology or school psychology and undergraduate courses in area of expertise, maintaining an active research program, supervising graduate student theses and practicum experiences, and participating in service to the department and university.
The department serves approximately 363 undergraduate and graduate students. The department has two undergraduate programs (psychology and neuroscience), as well as two graduate programs (clinical psychology and school psychology). The department also houses a psychological services clinic, as well as several research laboratories.
The ideal candidate should have a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology (APA- accredited), or a doctoral degree in school psychology (APA-accredited or NASP-approved). Equal consideration will be given to both areas. ABD candidates in these areas will also be considered. We will also consider individuals with doctoral degrees in applied or developmental psychology, but these applicants must be able to demonstrate teaching and research interests in line with the Clinical Psychology or School Psychology program. Other requirements include demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college/university level and a commitment to research and scholarly work. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and promoting inclusive excellence is also required.
The MA Program in Clinical Psychology is designed for students with career interests in master's-level clinical practice or those who plan to obtain a doctorate. The foundation of the Clinical Psychology program is the scientist-practitioner model with training rooted in theoretical knowledge and ethical practice, including an internship and a required thesis. The program typically enrolls 8-12 students each fall with a current total of 21 students across the two-year program.
The Masters en route to the Specialist in School Psychology program offers NASP-approved training with a scientist-practitioner model. Students gain applied training in assessment, problem solving, therapeutic techniques and educational intervention, consultation and research. With 50+ years of experience, the school psychology program at EIU is recognized for its rigor and high standards in Illinois and across the country. The program typically enrolls 8-10 students each fall with approximately 18 students across the three-year program.

The School of Communication and Journalism at Eastern Illinois University seeks an individual to teach courses in both its Communication Studies and Journalism divisions. Upon hire, the candidate will share time across the divisions and be able to teach courses in accordance with the needs and demands of the school.
A successful candidate will have teaching experience, professional experience, and/or graduate coursework related to at least one major in the Division of Journalism (digital/print journalism, broadcast, public affairs, and sports media) and one major in the Division of Communication Studies (Corporate Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Mass Communication, Health Communication, Public Relations, and Television & Video Production). Qualifications
A master’s degree in journalism, communication, mass communication, television, film, digital media or related area is required at the time of appointment. Teaching experience is preferred. Experience as a working journalist is strongly preferred as is expertise in sports reporting and media relations. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills are expected. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is required.

The Eastern Illinois University Department of Teaching, Learning and Foundations seeks a non-tenure track faculty member with experience in PK-12/Secondary (grades 5-12) Career and Technical Education (CTE) to teach courses focused on instructional strategies and assessment for the middle-level and secondary learners such as Inquiry into Teaching; Literacy, Assessment, and Differentiation in Secondary Schools; Literacy in the Content Areas; Work-Based Learning; and CTE Methods in the area of licensure. The candidate will need to understand how diverse contexts influence the learning process and the role of reading/literacy across content areas.
The candidate may be expected to evaluate students in field experiences and foster professional relationships with our partners in local area schools. Successful candidates need to be committed to providing current and future educators with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to meet the challenges of 21st century classrooms. Candidates must know current state and national standards, understand educational theories and best pedagogical practices in PK-12/secondary education, integrate educational technology into their teaching, demonstrate a history of collegiality with fellow faculty members and cross-disciplinary collaboration, and demonstrate professional written and oral communication skills. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate &/or graduate- level courses utilizing online, on-campus, or hybrid formats. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to lead departmental recruitment efforts to continue to build the Career and Technical Education program.

Eastern Illinois University invites applications for the position of Admissions Counselor in the Office of International Students and Scholars. The Admissions Counselor serves as the primary admissions officer for international students and must have excellent communication skills. The position manages both undergraduate and graduate admissions, assists with international student scholarships, and advises students on immigration issues. The Admissions Counselor serves as a Designated School Officer (DSO)/Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to update and maintain Students Exchange and Visitors Records in SEVIS, and thus must be an American citizen or lawful permanent resident. Appropriate and supportive training will be provided for this position as necessary.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in any course of study. Preference will be given to candidates with some experience with international students and university admissions processes.
