Public universities in the State of Illinois are required to classify professional (non-academic), technical, and support staff according to established civil service categories. All staff jobs, except those determined by the Civil Service Merit Board to be administrative/professional in nature, are classified as civil service. To be considered for Civil Service Positions you must complete and submit an application and pass an examination.
Temporary extra help are civil service employees hired on a temporary basis to handle emergent excess workloads within a department. These employees may work up to a total of 900 hours. At that time, the employee must be terminated for at least 30 days before they can be rehired in another extra help position.
Civil service openings are sometimes advertised online; however, you should test for any EIU civil service classification in which you are interested before a vacancy occurs. Read about the hiring process to learn how the hiring system works for Civil Service.

Construction Project Coordinator I
Eastern Illinois University
The department of Facilities Planning and Management is looking for a Construction Project Coordinator I. This position will: develop plans and specifications for internal projects and oversee internal construction trades to execute renovation projects; act as a liaison between the University and external consultants and contractors; administer contracts for construction; observe and report on construction in progress: monitor and report on budgets and schedules; and coordinate construction schedules and activities with University activities. This position reports to the Construction Project Manager, and requires the ability to use word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), email (Microsoft Outlook), scheduling software for reports, estimating software (RS Means), work control software (TMA), and knowledge and skills to efficiently produce drawings using a CAD system (AutoCAD).
The qualified candidate must have three (3) years of work experience in construction management, building project management, or a closely related field or a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, an appropriate engineering degree, construction management, or a related discipline and one (1) additional year of building construction management and/or building project management experience. This person should have the ability to read and interpret contract documents and shop drawings, lead small construction crews, meet with clients to understand project needs, communicate clearly about all aspects of construction projects, be able to recommend the disposition of alternatives and change orders, and advise employees of contractors on matters related to building design or construction. Desirable qualifications include previous experience working for a large facility owner or university and experience in contract administration of multiple construction projects. The successful candidate will bring experience using industry standard techniques and creativity in adapting them to the University environment. Salary is to be determined by excess qualifications and experience. Salary range is $55,000 - $60,000.

The State University Civil Service System for Illinois now allows Eastern Illinois University to maintain a lateral transfer list for Police Officer positions. Space Administrator II
Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a full-time Civil Service position of Space Administrator II in the Office of the Registrar. The Space Administrator II works under the direction of the Associate Registrar. This position provides specialized assistance with assigning classroom space, producing the semester class schedule, and provides student-centered services in areas of registration and academic records while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of academic records. Employees at this level represent the University to students and offices across campus and must provide a high level of customer service. Candidates for this position must be able to think critically, exercise independent judgment and decision making, operate with minimal supervision, and be ready to learn and lead.
The Office of the Registrar and Enrollment Management is guided by five core values and seeks candidates that identify with these core values
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
· Maintaining user accounts, building and room information, scheduling academic spaces, and more within the space administration software.
· Produces the class schedule and final exam schedule each term.
· Coordinates and oversees the building of course sections each term, monitoring them for accurate coding and compliance with university policies.
· Executes various actions related to course registration, withdraws, overloads, imaging, and updates to student records.

Eastern Illinois University is seeking service-oriented, student-centered individuals to serve as substitute drivers for the Panther Shuttle Service. Drivers are required to operate various vehicles depending on need. Drivers typically drive a 20-passenger bus. The shuttle service runs from late August to early May on Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 pm and Saturday-Sunday from 3 pm to 9 pm. (We are currently looking for a driver who has daytime availability.) Applicants must present a valid Illinois Class A or B CDL with a “P” endorsement, a current medical certificate, and a driver’s abstract at the time of application. Applicants who are hired must pass a background investigation and drug test and will be subject to random drug testing throughout employment.

The Assistant Director of Academic Services is responsible for providing academic, vocational and personal support and advising to Student-Athletes in the Athletic Department within the guidelines of the University, Conference and NCAA rules.
The Assistant Director of Academic Services supports the Director in the following:
Qualifications: A relevant Bachelor's Degree. Knowledge or experience with tutoring and/or assisting student-athletes with their daily academics and development of study skills.
Proficiency with computer software including Grades First, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, internet and email. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations along with familiarity of new NCAA academic reform initiatives is preferred.
