The Teaching, Learning, & Foundations Department has been ranked one of the top teacher candidate preparation programs in the state. We strive to advance the scholarly preparation of pre-service and practicing teachers by providing quality instruction that exemplifies the best teaching practices for children from birth through age fourteen - recognizing multiple pathways to learning. The Department is committed to enhancing the academic experiences of our students in an effort to fashion educators who function effectively in a culturally diverse, technologically advanced, and global environment.
Online Grad Program
Our ONLINE program is for all teachers (pre-K to 12th) and flexibly adapts for all content area!
The graduate curriculum encompasses comprehensive content knowledge and promotes the use of critical thinking and problem solving to cultivate teacher-researchers who are empowered to serve as leaders in the profession. Faculty members challenge students to bridge the gap between theory and practice as they develop the skills required for ethical and effective collaboration and communication within the local school community and a culturally diverse, technologically advanced global environment. As a result of the scholarship and research interests of the faculty, candidates at all levels are enriched with opportunities to participate on faculty research teams in furthering the mission of the Department. Examples of current projects include: The Early Childhood Educator Preparation Program Grant; the Illinois Higher Education Partnership Grant /Response to Intervention Practices; and the Illinois Higher Education Partnership Grant/Common Core Standards Implementation.
