Speech and hearing screenings are conducted in the EIU Speech-Hearing-Clinic, located on the second floor of the Human Services Building, just south of Klehm Hall. The check must be completed prior to beginning teacher education courses with significant field experience components; candidates should consult with their preparation program to determine when this requirement must be met. Candidates may fulfill the requirement anytime prior to beginning these courses.
To determine if you have already met this requirement at EIU, run a "Degree Audit" (http://www.eiu.edu/acaffair/dars/); once you have done so, look in the "University Admission to Teacher Education Requirements" section; if "Speech and Hearing Clearnce Complete" is listed with a green check next to it, you have completed the requirement and do not need to repeat it; if it does not appear or does not have a green check, you must complete this process.
To schedule an appointment, students should go to the online booking page at https://www.eiu.edu/slhclinic/HearingScreenAppt.php
For the Fall 2021 semester, appointments will be available beginning Monday, August 30.
The screenings cost $5 and may be paid by cash, credit, or debit card.
Please plan to arrive ten minutes early to check in at the reception desk.
After completion of the screening, students will receive a receipt with their results and proof of payment for their records, and results will be forwarded by the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic to the College of Education.
