The Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS) is the online portal for completing all required licensure tests (except the edTPA) for educator preparation candidates in the State of Illinois.
The ILTS website may be accessed here, and lists all of the content tests required for each Illinois educator endorsement. Candidates in all EIU educator preparation programs should consult with their program faculty, academic adviser, or College of Education Associate Dean Dr. Stephen Lucas (selucas@eiu.edu) to determine which test(s) they must complete.
Teacher education candidates must pass their content test(s) prior to beginning student teaching; the deadline for providing evidence of passage is the last day of Fall semester finals (for Spring student teachers), and July 31 (for Fall student teachers).
The ILTS has information on each test's framework, as well as a study guide and sample questions; candidates are strongly encouraged to consult these resources in order to prepare for their test(s). Candidates should also consult with their program's faculty or their academic adviser for recommendations for preparation materials. Additionally, the EIU Booth Library has obtained some preparation resources, and commercial study guides are also available through test preparation publisheers.
It is highly recommended that candidates take their test(s) no later than the beginning of the semester prior to beginning student teaching. School counseling, school psychology, and speech-language pathology candidates should conult with their program faculty or academic adviser to determine when they should take their test(s).
Candidates must wait 15 days before retaking any specific content test; the State of Illinois now allows unlimited retake attempts on content tests.
Test results are reported automatically by the testing company to the Illinois State Board of Education and to EIU; however, students must be sure to indicate that EIU is a score recipient when registering.
While candidates are typically notified immediately at the conclusion of computer-based tests whether they have passed or failed, results are not official until they are posted in the candidate's ISBE Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) account. This typically happens about two to three weeks after test completion; candidates should consider this when scheduling tests as approval for student teaching, internships, and entitlement for licensure or endorsements is based upon posting of test scores in ELIS.
