View the list of registered employers for the 2025 In-Person Media Internship and Job Fair and sign up to attend. There will be opportunities for all to create connections with employers as well as to gain potential employment. This event will be held in the MLK Union University Ballroom.
This fair is open to all major especially anyone wanting to for in a media related field.
Prepare for a Career Fair:
1. Develop and practice a strong, confident introduction or elevator pitch. Keep it brief!
2. Update your resume and have it reviewed. Add placement experience, club participation, volunteer work, research projects, scholarships and awards, etc.
3. Review the list of participating school districts and organizations on Handshake and identify those that interest you. Have strong background knowledge before attending the Career Fair.
4. Prepare questions that are relevant to your districts/organizations of interest.
5. Gather items to bring to the Career Fair, such as a portfolio with a notepad and pen, print copies of your resume (more than just those you intend to connect with), and your research notes.
6. Plan and prepare to dress in business casual attire to make the best first impression.
Approaching Employers/Organizations/School Districts at a Career Fair
1. Leave your backpack at home or in a designated area.
2. If you are in line to connect with an employer, be attentive to the conversations ahead of you.
3. Be aware of those waiting behind you, as conversations should only last 3-4 minutes if a line has developed.
4. Hold eye contact, shake hands, and deliver a confident introduction.
5. Conversations should be focused on your interest in the district or organization (e.g., job opportunities, qualifications, what they like to see in candidates, what sets their district apart, etc.). Remember that employers are people, too, so be yourself, get to know them, and have fun!
6. Thank the representative and request a business card or other means of contact for a connection in the future.
Following Up After the Fair:
1. Apply for positions of interest through Handshake, the district’s hiring portal, or via contact information provided at the fair.
2. You can also send a “thank you” email within 24 hours to contacts you met at the fair. Refer to something from your conversation and attach your resume.
3. Participate in opportunities to practice interviewing skills through mock interviewing.
4. Keep your resume up to date and begin developing a cover letter pertaining to your professional interest.
5. Consider establishing a professional online presence through LinkedIn or other digital portfolio websites for networking opportunities.
