Background investigations shall be conducted as part of the search process for all employees hired into "positions of trust." The department extending the employment offer is responsible for sending the Background Investigation for Employment form for completion. Upon receipt of the completed form, it will be forwarded to the Department of Human Resources for submission to the Illinois State Police. The Department of Human Resources is responsible for ensuring background investigations are completed prior to entering the employment contract. Based on the results of the investigation, the area vice president will be responsible for hiring decisions.
Background investigations must be completed prior to employing individuals in positions of trust.
The cost of conducting background investigations will be paid by the appropriate vice presidential area from funds identified by the Vice President.
The following full-time positions have been identified as positions of trust at Eastern Illinois University for the purpose of compliance with the Campus Security Act (Public Act 88-629).
Academic Affairs
Child and Infant Development Laboratory (including part-time)
All administrative, professional, and office personnel
Full time faculty and Academic Support Professionals
Business Affairs - All personnel
University Advancement - All personnel
President - All personnel
Internal Auditing - All personnel
General Counsel - All personnel
Student Affairs - All personnel
Enrollment Management - All personnel
A background investigation shall also be conducted on any current employee who is promoted or reassigned from a position exempt from this rule to any position listed above or any position that would otherwise require a background investigation. A background investigation may also be required for other full-time or temporary or extra help positions if requested by the hiring agent.
At the time of application, full time faculty, administrators, and other employee groups may also be required to complete a required survey related to findings of responsibility or on-going investigations associated with sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, violations of Title IX (including sex-based harassment), or discrimination policies at their current and prior employers. The University reserves the right to inquire of prior employees before issuing an offer of employment and a failure of a prospective employee or current employee to disclose accurately may result in a withdrawal of an offer or termination. All confidential candidate and employee disclosures and prior employee responses will be maintained pursuant to university policy.
