This faculty-led program consists of a 4-week summer residency split evenly between the Italian art capitals of Florence and Rome, with day trips to Siena (from Florence) and Pompeii (from Rome). The program will allow students to become immersed in the art and culture of two of the most spectacular moments in the history of art, the classic era of the Roman Empire as well as the heights of the Quattrocento and Cinquecento during the Renaissance. Imagine listening to an engaging lecture on say, Brunelleschi’s dome, then strolling past the Medici palace as you make your way down the Via del Martelli on your way to the Duomo itself. While there, sketch a Donatello on the bell tower, then later refine the sketch in the studio with the assistance of your professor. This is the type of experience that we want to bring to our students through this program.
