Community
Member of Camp New Hope Board
Camp is for individuals from 8 to 80+ years who have disabilities; started by families to provide help and support for each other and been in business since the 1970s.
Frequently Taught Courses
I typically teach one or both of the 2 courses that present content about individuals with significant disabilities - intellectual and/or physical.
Students learn about the history of treatment and education, legislation regarding treatment and education, inclusion with peers across the lifespan, and transition from school to community life. We discuss the good and the not as good and where we might like to go.
Each of these courses offers our teacher candidates the opportunity to work with students from the very young to those who are getting ready to transition out of school in all kinds of school settings.
